Lavanderia Vecchia: Italian food and hospitality at its Berlin best

In a courtyard, just off grimy Flughafenstraße in Neukölln is La Lavanderia Vecchia, literally  “The Old laundry”. The big clean, bright and airy space has the homely feel of Nonna’s kitchen: tea towels and linens hang from washing lines and there’s a quirky array of old children’s toys and the odd washing machine and laundry press to complete the atmosphere.
We ate there for lunch, a fantastic deal at €8 for 3 courses and also enjoyed being in the outside space in the sunshine. While this outing was something of a date in our otherwise very child-centric lives, we could see our boys being welcomed and happily occupied in the garden. Dinner is a more elaborate affair starting promptly at 7.30pm with a set menu. At €39 for 3 divine courses including wine, water, espresso and grappa, this is really something special.
Opening hours: Tue-Fri 12-14.30, 19.30-; Sat 13-15.00, 19:30
