A really cozy little cafe and bar that is a real treasure for everything from a lazy Sunday breakfast over one of the many English-language magazines that are scattered about to a night of live, original music. Café Hilde is owned and run by a friendly pair, one German and one Irish and they’ve done well to make it welcoming as well as interesting. Check out there listings for poetry readings, theatre and music that make this a real unofficial cultural centre (but not in a posy way).
It is within a 2 minute walk of the buzzy Kollwitz str., close enough to mean that you can just pop over from the centre of Prenzlauer Berg yet removed enough to feel as if you’ve discovered a secret little world of your own.
It is also a great place for a party and the owners are really awesome about helping out if you want to arrange one. We celebrated a birthday there complete with the most delicious cupcakes ever and the owners set up a overhead projector so we could screen a DVD.
The food is great too. If you have a hankering for a full Irish breakfast (after all, how many Berlin Sunday brunches can one be expected to survive without break) then this is your place.
